Dog daycare requirements: vaccines, tests, temperament

Quick answer

Dog daycares typically require rabies, DHPP and Bordetella, often canine influenza, a recent negative fecal test, flea and tick prevention, and spay or neuter for dogs over about six months. Most also run a temperament assessment before the first full day.

Daycares ask for more than kennels, because the dogs play together all day. The vaccine list is longer, and there is usually a test day before the first real one.

Other requirements

  • A negative fecal test within 6 to 12 months.
  • Flea and tick prevention.
  • Spay or neuter for dogs over about 6 to 7 months, at most daycares.
  • Minimum age, usually after the puppy vaccine series is complete.

The assessment day

Most daycares run a shorter first day to see how a dog behaves in the group. Book it early; the vaccination check happens before it, and a missing canine influenza dose can push the whole thing back a month.

Proof

The clinic record with product names and dates, or the certificates. A PawPass share link puts them on one page for the daycare’s file; most will accept it by email when you enrol.
