What groomers ask for
Rabies, almost always. Bordetella at plenty of salons, since dogs share a room and kennel cough spreads easily. Some also want DHPP. Cat groomers typically ask for rabies and FVRCP. Policies vary between salons, so check when you book.
Why they check at booking
A salon books tightly, and a dog turned away at the door is a lost hour. Most check the dates when you book and again at drop-off. If a booster is due, they would rather you knew now than at the counter.
At the counter with PawPass
Open your pet, tap the share, and hold up the QR code. The groomer scans it with their own phone and sees the vaccinations with their dates and your notes. When you book by phone, send the link instead; it works the same way and expires when you say.
If the record is out of date
Book the booster first, then the groom, with the timing rule in mind. A reminder set for a few weeks before the due date is the way to stop this happening next time.
Common questions
- Do groomers need Bordetella?
- Many do, because kennel cough spreads between dogs sharing a space. Ask your salon; some require it, some recommend it.
