Breeder puppy records: what to give new owners

Quick answer

Give each new owner the vaccinations given with dates and products, the deworming record, the vet exam, the microchip number and transfer details, any health testing on the parents or puppy, and a note of what is due next and when.

A new owner’s first vet visit goes well or badly depending on the paperwork you send home. This is the list that makes it go well.

The handover pack

  • Vaccinations: each DHPP dose with date and product, and anything else given.
  • Deworming and parasite treatments, with dates and products.
  • Vet exam record, with any findings.
  • Microchip number and how to transfer registration.
  • Health testing on the parents, and on the puppy where relevant.
  • Registration papers if applicable, and the sale contract.
  • Feeding, and a note of what is due next: the next DHPP dose and when rabies is expected.

Make "what is next" obvious

New owners most often miss the next dose in the series. Write the due date down, not just "in three weeks". See the puppy vaccination schedule.

Sending it with PawPass

Keep a record per puppy on Pro, with the litter imported from a spreadsheet, and give each owner a share link to their puppy’s history. See PawPass for breeders.
