How to share your pet’s records with a new vet

Quick answer

Ask your old clinic to send the full medical record to the new clinic; most do it by email within a few days, with your permission. Bring your own copy of the vaccination history and recent lab results to the first visit so the new vet can act on it immediately.

A new clinic that cannot see a vaccination treats it as missing. A few minutes before the first appointment saves a booster you did not need.

Clinic to clinic

  1. Call the old clinic and ask them to send the complete medical record to the new clinic. Give them the new clinic’s email.
  2. Ask the new clinic to confirm they received it before the appointment.
  3. If you used several clinics, repeat for each one. Each only has what it did.

Your own copy

Records sometimes arrive late or incomplete. Bring the vaccination history with dates and products, the latest bloodwork, current medications and doses, and allergies. A PawPass share link sent to the front desk the day before puts all of that on one page.

What the new vet will look for

  • Which vaccines are current and when each is next due.
  • Chronic conditions, medications and reactions to past vaccines.
  • Recent lab results, so tests are not repeated.
  • Weight history, which is easy to show on the weight chart.

Rules and guidelines change, and businesses set their own policies. Confirm with your vet and with whoever is asking.
