Six questions to ask of any app
- Can someone see my records without installing anything? At a kennel counter, a link or QR code that opens in any browser beats an app the kennel has never heard of.
- Can I control and end a share? Time limits and revocation matter for health data.
- Does it remind me before a booster lapses? By email at least, so it works even if notifications are off.
- Can I attach the actual certificate? For the places that want the signature.
- Does it work across clinics? A clinic’s own app only knows that clinic’s visits.
- What happens to my data? Look for a plain statement that it is not sold or shared with advertisers, and that you can delete it.
The kinds of app you will find
| Type | Good at | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Your clinic’s app or portal | Accurate records for that clinic | Only that clinic; sharing often needs a login |
| General notes or spreadsheet | Free, flexible | No reminders unless you build them; sharing is a screenshot |
| Dedicated pet record apps | Built for this | Check how sharing works and what the free tier includes |
How PawPass answers the six
Shares open in any browser with no account, expire when you choose and can be revoked. Reminders arrive by email on every plan. Certificates attach to entries, though they stay private rather than appearing on the shared page. It works across clinics. We never sell your data. It is free for one pet. It does not import from clinics, and there is no native app yet. See compare for the longer version.
